We had a fun visit with Brian and Steven in Federal Way, Washington. We also had some great BBQ at home one evening, toured the Red Hook brewery another day, and drove up to see the Snoqualmie Falls out of the city. But, we had to keep our train moving, so…….
From there, we headed to the Olympic National Park and took the loop around the park. The ocean views were incredible, the Rain Forest was beautiful and charming, at the same time. We wandered log strewn beaches with ancient logs that had washed down from higher elevation forests. We camped right above the beach, and the night was incredibly dark.
We visited the Rain Forest of the Olympic, and had an almost magical walk thru it as we were hiking to Cape Flattery, the most northwest point in the continental US. The sights out there were amazing, from the wooden walkways (in some places), to the pools of water surrounded by huge rocks. Sea birds were nesting, and orange starfish were clinging on rocks. It seemed like every time we turned a corner, we were “awed” all over again. We spent the night in Neah Bay, a fishing village on the Makah Indian Reservation, at a small RV park. We wandered around on the docks looking at old fishing boats, and new pleasure boats, and a few cranky old sea lions. Some folks came in with a huge catch of King Salmon, and Lingcod and Halibut………80-100 pounds each! Talk about a good day of fishing!
We wished we could stay longer, but we needed to move on. The road out and back, was quite narrow and winding, and Chad just loved it! But, incredible views of the Straits of Juan de Fuca were around each bend.
We arrived at my cousin’s house in a couple of hours drive. Our time with Steve and Melanie was relaxing and very enjoyable. They took us out on their boat one afternoon in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and we drifted as we ate our picnic lunch, and admired the beautiful lighthouse on the point.
The next day they suggested that we take the COHO Ferry to Victoria, BC. What a great idea. It was an hour and a half crossing, and the water was pretty smooth both ways. While on Vancouver Island, where Victoria is located, we walked the town, road the buses, toured the Legislative Buildings, enjoyed the Royal BC Museum (short version), roamed the Craigdarroch Castle, ate some great Fish ‘n Chips, road in a water Taxi, had a couple of Pints, and then relaxed on the COHO again, for the ride back. What a fun, full day!
For the “Twilight” fans out there, the Red Truck is from the book and movie fame. We came across the town, and surrounding areas, where much of the filming was done for the movies. That is the actual truck seen in the movies. The town, Forks, was full of Twilight ‘stuff’. Kinda fun……..
Next on our list, well, it is time to turn this rig around and get it started on the way home. More next time………
